The United Nations is intensifying diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation in Yemen after renewed fighting raised concerns about regional stability.
UN envoy Hans Grundberg recently met negotiators and regional officials as violence intensified along parts of Yemen’s Red Sea coast. The renewed conflict has displaced thousands of people and disrupted efforts to maintain previous ceasefire arrangements.
Yemen’s conflict has already created one of the world’s most serious humanitarian crises, and aid agencies fear further escalation could worsen conditions for civilians.
The latest developments also carry international significance because of Yemen’s proximity to major maritime trade routes used by global shipping companies.
