German Chancellor Friedrich Merz arrived in Kyiv on Sunday under air raid alerts as Russia intensified attacks across Ukraine. During the visit, Germany announced a new package that includes approximately €1 billion in military assistance and additional funding to help repair Ukraine’s damaged energy infrastructure ahead of winter. Germany and Ukraine are also expected to expand cooperation on drone production and defense technology.
The visit comes at a critical time as Ukrainian cities continue facing missile and drone attacks. European leaders have increasingly emphasized the importance of supporting Ukraine’s defense capabilities while helping the country maintain essential services during the colder months.
